Sexuality

From our home office in Fort Worth, Texas, we at Same Time Next Week? Counseling & Consultation, take great care to offer support for and treat clients who identify within the various LGBTQIA+ communities. We support your exploration into your sexuality and gender identity.

Sexuality is a fundamental and deeply personal part of who we are as it connects to our identity, relationships, emotions, and sense of self. Yet for many, it has been surrounded by heavy emotional weights such as silence, shame, fear, or confusion. At Same Time Next Week, we believe that exploring and understanding your sexuality is not only valid but vital to your overall mental and relational health. Therapy offers a safe, affirming space that allows you to reflect, question, and grow.

For some, sexuality feels like a room you were never allowed to enter. It may have been a part of your life that was ignored, suppressed, or made to feel off-limits. Maybe you were told not to ask questions. Perhaps you were taught to avoid your curiosity or encouraged to stay quiet about your desires. In therapy, we gently open that door, turn on the light, and invite you to explore that space on your terms. There is no pressure, shame, or judgment in your exploration.

Sexuality is more than behavior; it’s a journey of self-discovery. Understanding your desires, preferences, and boundaries can lead to greater self-awareness. It can also increase your emotional insight and self-acceptance. This process may involve unlearning old messages, healing past wounds, or clarifying what feels right for you. You may realize you’ve been following a map that was drawn by someone else. You were handed a premade script about gender, pleasure, or relationships that never truly aligned with who you are. Therapy invites you to create your own map. One that reflects your authentic values, needs, and direction.

For many, desire was treated as something dangerous or wrong; a fire you were told would burn you. Maybe you were taught to fear your body. Suppressing arousal became normalized. Wanting something made you the villain. But fire doesn’t only destroy. It is capable of warming, illuminating, and sustaining life. In therapy, we help you understand that sexual energy isn’t something to fear. It just needs a safe space, a healthy context, and your voice in the process.

Exploring sexuality in therapy can help you build a more empowered, liberated relationship with yourself. Through open, honest conversations within yourself and with partners, you can begin to dismantle harmful stigmas and embrace the diversity of human experience. This can lead to a more fulfilling and connected life, allowing you to form healthier, more supportive relationships.

Discussing sex and intimacy in therapy isn’t just about resolving problems; it’s about supporting your wholeness. Sexual concerns can affect communication, emotional connection, and self-esteem. Therapy provides a space to explore these topics without shame. In the process, this can help individuals and couples deepen trust, increase pleasure, and address potential sources of stress or trauma.

By normalizing and supporting open dialogue about sexuality, therapy helps reduce stigma and invites clarity, healing, and joy. Whether you're exploring your identity, recovering from sexual trauma, navigating changes in desire, or seeking better intimacy with a partner, you deserve a space where your questions and experiences are met with respect and care.

Your sexuality is not a problem to be fixed. It's a part of you worth understanding, honoring, and celebrating.
